The Buddy System

Make a New Friend.  Gain a New Perspective.

Any qualified individual (12 years and older) or group can give individuals with special needs the gift of baseball by volunteering as a Buddy.  Our Buddy system pairs each player with a volunteer helper.  Working one-on-one with our players will warm your heart and give you a new perspective on life.

Goals for our buddies include:

   - Assist the athlete according to his/her needs

   - Protect the player at all times

   - Encourage the athlete to participate and celebrate their successes; high fives or fist bumps are a must!

   - Have fun!

Pre-requisites for our buddies include:

   - 16 and older for the 9:00 game

   - 14 and older for the 10:15 game

  - 12 and older for the 11:30 game

   - Lots of enthusiasm and compassion

   - No baseball skills necessary

   - Volunteers must pre-register to assist at our weekly games

There is no minimum requirement as to the number of games or weeks to which volunteers must commit.  Although we do prefer if individuals can help at multiple games or on multiple weeks.  Selection of the specific games/weeks you'd like to sign up for is done during the registration process.

Group Opportunities

Group volunteers are important to our successful buddy program.  Church groups, athletic teams, corporate groups, civic groups and school clubs are just a few examples.  Everyone says the same thing: "We can't wait to do this again!"

Volunteering as a group builds camaraderie and a sense of community involvement.  It is a lesson that cannot be taught in a classroom, practice field or board room.

Groups should be made up of volunteers ages 16 and up for the 9:00 game, at least 14 for the 10:15 game or 12 and older for the 11:30 game.  For info about volunteering, please check out our FAQ section

Coaching Opportunities

Do you have an hour or so once a week to spare in the spring or fall?  No practices.  No play-offs.  No angry competition.  No angry parents.  Just fun!  You don't have to know much about baseball.  You just need a heart for the players, a little bit of patience and a compassionate, enthusiastic spirit.  It's the most rewarding coaching experience you'll ever have.
